Tangiwai is said by some stories to be a beautiful maiden turned into stone. Her grieving husband cried over her body and his tears were caught in the stone forever. This Tangiwai displays features of seascapes in its depths. Unlike Nephrite pounamu, Tangiwai is transparent (not translucent like Nephrite). Never used as tooling, Tangiwai has always lent itself to becoming jewellery and has been valued for its soulful beauty

"Hoa/ friend" is a part of the "kaitiaki series". Kaitiaki are guardians and we use these kaitiaki to empower ourselves, people and places. Hoa represents a state solitude.
